MARSHALL, Mo. - Steve Ross used a pin and a technical fall to vault into second place at the Missouri Valley Open.
Ross, a 157-pounder, defeated Fort Hays State's Mark Roundtree 17-1 in the opening round and then recorded a first-period fall over Waldorf's Giovani Valdez in the round of 16. He would eventually be defeated by Lindenwood's Brian Oeschner in the finals 8-3.
A.J. Smith was the only other placewinner for the Cougars. He battled his way through the consolation bracket for third place. It included falls over James Alter, of Missouri Valley, and Travis Pettengill, of Lindenwood.
